A memory disk of 360 TeraBytes invented by the British. It stores the information for 1 million years
Years ago, we used floppy disks to store information, then we switched to CDs and DVDs. Now, scientists at the University of Southampton have developed a new data storage support made from nanostructured layered glass named Superman Memory Crystal. The disc can withstand temperatures up to 1000 ° C, which makes it virtually indestructible.
According to researchers, the new discovery could totally change the way the store new information. The new storage support has an impressive capacity of 360 TB disc space. The data recorded on such disc could last last for a million years.
Nanostructures that are able to assemble themselves change the way light passes through the glass, altering the polarization of light in a way that can then be read using an optical microscope and a special polarizer.
