As I said in a previous article, trends come and go, and this applies to smartphones and mobile operating systems. If now, in 2013, most users have Android and iOS operating their smartphones, in few years we can expect a new OS to rule them all. Samsung is not sleeping on its popularity, and is working really hard to develop a well thought out operating system that could become an alternative to Android.
If you are scouting the market for a new smartphone then you should know that there are plenty of options to choose from. Unfortunately, many of the newest smartphones that are being sold are also very expensive. It is easy to spend over $500 for a smartphone today, but many customers don’t have that budget.
If you are looking for a smartphone that is not so expensive, you often have to settle for older versions of phones that have gone cheaper because they are somewhat outdated. Or you can opt for Huawei Premia 4G, an Android smartphone with many features that are usually found in the latest smartphones from Samsung and Apple, but everything for a fraction of the cost. This smartphonephone can be found for $149 on Amazon.
After the success of A110 Canvas 2 şi A116 Canvas HD, the Indian manufacturer called Micromax is trying to penetrate the 3D smartphone market. Although big players like HTC and LG tried to release competitive products in this segment of the market, they failed. Then, why is Micromax enrolling in this strange race? They are rethinking the strategy, and they are trying to adjust the main problem of 3D smartphone: they are too expensive. So, after extensive research and development, they are releasing a new smartphone with a 3D display at a price under $300.
Being the largest and most trusted online store in the world has its advantages: when you release a new product everyone pays attentions. Amazon learn this lesson a long time ago, with their revolutionary eReader: Kindle. Later, they saw a real importunity when the tablet market blew, and created the Kindle Fire tablet, which was pretty successful. Since then, there were rumors and speculations about Amazon trying to get a piece of the smartphone market, but we never got a taste of the actual Amazon smartphone. I guess they were trying to develop a phone with a display under 4” when the market demand switched on smartphones with larger displays, making their plan obsolete. So, Amazon had to rethink their whole strategy in order to create a competitive smartphone.
All the rumors are converging to a release date around mid 2013, when Amazon will unveil their new 4.7” smartphone. The smartphone could have enhanced features, and we can expect a solid product since they are working with Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) in order to complete this project.
Ever since I wrote about Space 3 smartphone, I understood that future smartphones will be thin, flexible and transparent. Ever since, we have seen many attempts to create the perfect future smartphone, few concepts even became prototypes. Of course, manufacturers have a long way to go until they will be able to release a full transparent and flexible phone, but they are walking that road, making the first steps towards that goal.
Windows Phone Surface N is a concept phone that’s pretty thin, transparent and has a super-resolution screen like no other: 3,840 x 2,160.
If we are to follow the rumors, iPhone 5S will be launched in mid 2013. But Apple fanatics couldn’t wait until summer to get their hands on the new 5S, so they began the hunt for early releases of the product. They were able to find a device that looks strikingly similar to iPhone 5S at $99. The fake iPhone 5S was created by Shanzai and was named Goophone i5S. MicGadget website wrote that 1000 pieces were sold in 20 minutes after it was posted online. Although the phone looks just like the original iPhone 5, it’s a fake iPhone 5S, and the users will probably see the differences after using it for a while.
I wrote about the first Firefox OS phone a while ago, but now you get the chance to see it in action thanks to the ZTE Open, a phone produced in China. The device is a entry-level smartphone powered by a 1Ghz processor, and features 256 MB of RAM, 512 internal storage, 3.5inch display, 3.2M FF Camera and a battery of 1200mAH. The specifications are not that great compared to other smartphones on the market, but we get to see the Firefox OS in action. The new operating system from Firefox is built on HTML5, so apps can be run directly from the internet. No app store is needed. Pretty cool, right?
A PDF file was leaked on the Internet with info on the next Samsung Galaxy device, and now every tech website writes about the Samsung Galaxy S4 features. The new Smartphone from Samsung features a new processor called Exynos, a 5” display with Full HD resolution, 2 GB of ram and runs Android 4.2. Although it may not be released at MWC 2013, all the rumors indicate that it would be released next month.
