In the next period of time we will receive more and more news about Android 9.0 Pie updates from smartphone manufacturers. After HTC and Motorola, it Sony’s turn to announce the models that will be updated with the latest version of the operating system from Google and the “candidates” are not surprising at all. As with other companies, premium models will be the ones that will have priority, mid-range ranks being scheduled for a delayed release.
On the list of Sony devices that will get the Android 9.0 Pie update, there are nine devices, six of which are part of the company’s high-end family of devices, and the other three are mid-range models. The launch of the first updates will begin this year in November, while “lower-end” devices will only be upgraded in 2019.
Here is the complete list of Sony Xperia devices that get update to Android Pie:
- Xperia XZ2
- Xperia XZ2 Premium
- Xperia XZ2 Compact
- Xperia XZ Premium
- Xperia XZ1
- Xperia XZ1 Compact
- Xperia XA2
- Xperia XA2 Ultra
- Xperia XA2 Plus
As you can see, the list contains the last two generations of top Sony devices and just the latest generation of mid-range devices. Most likely, the XZ2 models will be the first to receive the upgrade to Android 9.0, as they have already been launched with Android Oreo and should benefit from “Project Treble“, a software that will make updates faster.
The Xperia XA1 models launched in 2017 will not receive an update to Android 9.0 Pie from Sony.
