MiiPC – The $99 PC designed for children

Posted In Apple - By John Script On Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 With 0 Comments

eMashines designed MiiPC, a cheap mini-PC that’s perfect for kids’ bedroom. The price for this cool gadget is $99, and can be used for Internet browsing, for watching videos and games and for school-related activities.

In order to create a PC under $100, eMachines had to use hardware that was borrowed from the tablet industry. More precisely, we are dealing with a cheap PC that runs a custom version of Android 4.2, especially optimized for big screen, mouse and keyboard control.

MiiPC‘s case is a cube with sides of 10cm. It features a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM and 4 GB internal storage which can be extended by attaching a memory card. You can access the Internet via WiFi, and you can connect a mouse and keyboard to it using its Bluetooth 4.0 technology. You can attach a normal HDTV or an HD monitor via HDMI port.

Just like Windows or Apple’s OS, MiiPC’s OS allows you to create multiple user accounts. It gets even better, because eMashines created a mobile app for MiiPC that allows the parents to remotely check on the MiiPC activities, having the possibility to block access to certain websites or applications.
