According to some analysts, 2019 will be the year of foldable smartphones. Samsung and Huawei are fighting for supremacy in the the battle that will establish the first company to launch a foldable smartphone. Now, a new competitor has joined the game. Motorola plans a similar gadget and this device seems to be RAZR’s successor.
A recently obtained patent shows a foldable screen phone. The model depicted in the patent drawing seems to be somewhat inspired by the famous Motorola RAZR phone. Judging from the drawing that accompanies the patent, we can see how Motorola is trying to solve the problem of folding the screen so that it does not crash where it will bend.
Experts fear that the model will have a kind of hinge, and this could be a design and usage problem, especially when the smartphone is opened. It’s possible that it will not be able to “stretch” completely.
It remains to be seen how RAZR’s successor will look like and if patent will ever get implemented. It is very likely that several generations of foldable phones will be needed until manufacturers will find the ideal solution that combines an aesthetically pleasing design with the impeccable functionality of a such a design.
