I have an odd habit: when I upgrade to a new smartphone, I can’t let the old one go. Sometimes, I like to keep it in the family, just because I want to play with it from time to time and know it’s safe. Sometimes, I keep it to myself, and I find new uses for it. One of my old phones is an iPhone 3G that I bought years ago. Now, I’m the owner of an iPhone 4S, which is much faster than 3G. As you know, Apple likes phone upgrades, so they “force you” to upgrade your iPhone by making new apps incompatible with old iPhones. That’s the case with my old buddy, because the latest iOS that’s compatible with iPhone 3G is iOS 4.2.1, and installing new apps is almost impossible (because you need iOS 5 installed). So, what can you do with an old iPhone that has no software coverage and it’s damn slow? Here are 5 cool things to do with your old iPhone.
iFlashDrive is an Apple licensed flash drive for iOS devices that allows you to store data to and from your iPhone (and other Apple products). You can transfer your data without connecting the iPhone to a computer. Just plug in the iFlashDrive and start copying your files. The device is available in 8GB 16GB and 32GB and works with all iOS devices including the New iPad. See price here.
Since everyone agreed that the next iPhone will be released in the summer of 2013, every blog is trying to pinpoint the exact date of iPhone 5S release. Apple’s most awaited event of 2013 is expected to be scheduled for June 29, according Inquisitr.com, citing company sources. The event is named “Original Passion, New Ideas” and it will be held at Apple headquarters in Cupertino. With this event, Apple marks 6 years since the launch of the first iPhone, and it’s only natural to celebrate in a proper way, giving fans a glimpse of the next generation Apple gadgets: iPhone 5S and iPad 5.
Although iPhone 5s release event is highly expected by everyone, it will be different than the launch event of Samsung Galaxy S4. If the Samsung’s new gadget release event was created like a spectacle of extravagance, folks at Apple will probably try to tackle a show of simplicity, like they always did. Until then, you should check iPhone 5S: a review from the future.
If we are to follow the rumors, iPhone 5S will be launched in mid 2013. But Apple fanatics couldn’t wait until summer to get their hands on the new 5S, so they began the hunt for early releases of the product. They were able to find a device that looks strikingly similar to iPhone 5S at $99. The fake iPhone 5S was created by Shanzai and was named Goophone i5S. MicGadget website wrote that 1000 pieces were sold in 20 minutes after it was posted online. Although the phone looks just like the original iPhone 5, it’s a fake iPhone 5S, and the users will probably see the differences after using it for a while.
Yes, it’s not a joke. 7 million people all over the world decided to push their iOS 6 devices one step further, installing the long awaited Jailbreak from evaders. Although the number may seem impressive, you should know that there are over 300 million iOS6 devices in the world, so it means that only 2.33% of iOS6 users decided to test the new Jailbreak. A good explanation for this big number is the anticipation created around the release.
As iOS evolves, it’s harder to develop a working Jailbreak for it, because all the security holes are closed by the Apple coders. Even so, the evaders team finally cracked it and it works just fine. Even though the 2.33% could be a small percentage, let’s not forget that only few days passed since the release, and that percentage could very well go up to 10% (the historically Jailbreak share of 2011).
The competition for iPhone and iPad is stronger than ever, and Apple finally decided to change their product strategy, trying to be the first to introduce a new gadget trend: the wearable technology. Let’s face it, they did not come with a new device for some time. In the last years, they just polished their old gadgets, making those minor modifications look like major improvements. But, seeing Samsung’s sale numbers from 2012, I guess they decided to switch their strategy and went for diversity. Maybe it was about time to innovate and create new gadgets. We love upgrades and iPhone 5 is a great smartphone, but we need to see that spark that made us fall in love with Apple for the first time.
This could be Apple’s coolest invention of 2012: iWatch2 – the futuristic watch that allows you to watch movies and enjoy Facebook!
Antonio De Rosa is a talented designer, and this is not his first nor his last concept design. iWatch2 follows Apple general design of glam and curves. iWathc2 is a concept watch with 32GB memory, WiFi and Bluetooth that allows you to connect to iPad / iPhone.
China has a lot of history in creating clones after original gadgets. Sometimes I think they have a fetish in creating copycats with most of the products we enjoy today: gadgets, cars, fashion and toys. As you can see, on some of these products they did not even bother to change the names.
