We can’t have a top with the best smartphones of 2014 without including a device that redefined everything: the iPhone. That’s why I waited so much to release this article. So let’s start with it.
As everyone expected, the iPhone 6 was released in September. It is a beautiful smartphone with 4.7 inch screen, 8 megapixel camera, fingerprint sensor and it can used exclusively for NFC payments. On paper, the iPhone has lower specs compared with other devices in this list, but we already know that iOS environment works flawless without hiccups or annoying bugs. The 4.7 inch display was Apple’s response to current trends, and probably it would have irritated Steve Jobs if he would have been still around. If that large display is not big enough for you, you can always try the iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5-inch screen, a smartphone that has the same muscles as its little brother.
Let’s move to Samsung. It’s the first time in history that they did not increase the display’s size on their devices already reaching up to 6.3 inches. However, they are trying to penetrate the luxury market, adding leather, crystals or expensive materials on their devices.

Note 4 is Samsung’s flagship, featuring aluminum, fingerprint sensors and heart rate monitor. In addition, it features a 16 MP main camera. The secondary camera has 3.7 MP and it is designed specifically for selfie enthusiasts.
Note Edge is the rebel child of the Samsung family and it comes with an unique and interesting display. Despite the innovative technology, I’m not sure it will sell as good as Note 4 or Galaxy S5.
Note 4 and Note Edge are an important bet for Samsung. The company announced that the financial results for the spring of 2014 were below expectations, and it seem that the sale numbers will not get better until the end of the year.
For me, the LG G3 was the surprise of the year. I had the chance to use it for few hours and man, I loved it. Even if there is no physical dedicated Home button, you won’t feel the need of it, since the software buttons do the job perfectly. Another cool thing that I love about this smartphone is the 5.5 inch the display. Just look at the image above and you will understand what I’m talking about. Both iPhone 6 Plus and the LG G3 have the same display, but LG’s dimensions are much smaller. On paper, it has better camera, better pixel density and more features than the iPhone 6 Plus. It’s definitely a smartphone to be taken into consideration if you plan to get a new device.
Next, I will share an image comparing the dimensions of all these devices:
